  • Always look at the bright side

Proverbial Meaning: Don't have a negative outlook, viewing the bright side (of life or a situation) is better.
Literal Origins: Many things have a dark side and a light side, such as dark clouds with sunshine above them or a tree and its shadow. The proverb asks that one looks at the brighter, optimistic side, rather than the darker pessimistic side of a situation.

  • Moderation in all things

Proverbial Meaning: Taking things to extremes, such as smoking, drinking and even exercising, can be bad for your health.
Literal Origins: Be moderate with all your pursuits.

  • Too many cooks spoil the broth

Proverbial Meaning: It's often better for just one person, or a very small group of people, to undertake a complicated task.
Literal Origins: When making broth, or soup, the recipe can be spoiled
